Specialist Tuition

With or without a formal diagnosis of dyslexia,  1:1 tuition can be invaluable. A teaching plan will be drawn up based on known strengths and relative areas of weakness and will specifically target the individual's needs to help them overcome learning difficulties. Most importantly, this multi-sensory, cumulative targeted support builds confidence, independence and self-esteem laying a positive foundation for all future learning.

Although always targeted and often challenging, my 1:1 tuition sessions remain relaxed and are taught collaboratively with the student based on their own interests. It is vital every student is in charge of their own learning style and strategies, and can increase their understanding of how they learn. (References and recommendations are available on request.)

My extensive experience, qualifications, training and skills mean I am able to draw on many different  teaching methods and programmes to suit different ages and abilities. Lots of children with dyslexia are extremely bright and need to be challenged and stimulated intellectually. Some need help with Verbal or Non-Verbal Reasoning skills. Many benefit from touch typing skills which I can help with. For older children or adults, I use relevant school, college or work-based resources. I also teach exam techniques and study skills such as skimming, scanning, organisation and editing.
