Dyslexia Diagnostic Assessment

If someone you know is displaying some dyslexic tendencies, or perhaps has been told they might be dyslexic, a full Diagnostic Assessment can provide a formal identification of dyslexia - which is a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD). The Assessment and Report will highlight the individual's strengths and relative areas of weakness and provide recommendations to all those trusted with supporting them, along with strategies how best to move forward with support and confidence.

An Assessment takes approximately three hours, which includes short breaks and, if necessary, it can be split into two sessions.  The Assessment will involve completing a questionnaire together, and reading, writing and problem-solving tasks carried out in a relaxed and homely environment.

All assessments used are Standardised as recommended by the British Dyslexia Association and follow guidelines outlined by The Department for Education (DfE).

The full Diagnostic Assessment Report is delivered within two weeks of completing the Assessment and can be shared with schools and other professionals supporting the individual with a new diagnosis. They can respond to the recommendations and put in place interventions and Individual Teaching Programmes to help the individual overcome barriers to learning and thereby succeed.

An Assessment for a secondary school or college student is useful because the Report may include recommendations for exam procedures including extra time allocation or the use of a computer.

A post-16 years-old Assessment for university is useful because the Report will not only make recommendations but also means a student could qualify for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) such as equipment and learning support.

An Access Arrangements Test (JCQ) is a shorter assessment that includes the approved tests needed to provide evidence for 'Reasonable Adjustments' during examinations such as being givenextra time.
